Job Summary

Reporting to the Supply Chain Manager, the Supply Chain Specialist supports the Operations Team by purchasing materials, supplies, and services on favorable terms for the organization. This role tracks purchases, monitors vendor quality and performance issues, maintains an up-to-date vendor database, prepares purchase orders, and verifies the receipt of goods. The Supply Chain Specialist also contributes to projects in a limited or supporting capacity.

 

Job Duties

Safety:

  • Champions and promotes a strong safety culture.
  • Purchase safety-related supplies and equipment as required.

Production:

  • Manage supplier relationships for local services and supplies.
  • Determine material requirements.
  • Create purchase orders for the entire local site using SAP.
  • Participate in inventory counts and manage raw material inventory using SAP and Excel.
  • Follow standard procedures and processes for reorder points (ROP) and safety stock levels.
  • Communicate with the Strategic Purchasing Group to optimize order quantities.
  • Ensure suppliers meet their contractual obligations.
  • Ensure the approved supplier mix is followed.
  • Maintain optimal raw material supplies to support customer and production demand.
  • Manage SMOB activities.
  • Coordinate with Planning, Scheduling, Customer Service, and Logistics to support efficient, on-time, in-full (OTIF) delivery while minimizing scrap.

Quality:

  • Identify supplier issues, escalate major supply interruptions, and communicate updates to local Operations and the Strategic Purchasing Group.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable BRC, FDA, ISO, and other relevant standards.

Miscellaneous:

  • Serve as a backup for production scheduling.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable FDA and quality standards.
  • Perform other duties and participate in special team assignments as required.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Ability to work effectively as both a team member and a leader.
  • Ability to organize work, people, and processes to meet customer requirements, including urgent needs.
  • Ability to understand and communicate information effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize workloads and achieve daily objectives.
  • Excellent time management and problem-solving skills.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • At least one year of purchasing experience.
  • At least one year of experience using SAP; experience with SAP Fiori is preferred.
  • Experience in manufacturing or packaging is preferred.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk, and sit; see; hear and understand clear speech; and use hands and fingers with sufficient dexterity.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds at a time.
  • Must wear required safety gear, including eye, hearing, and foot protection.
